§ 8.40.120. Cellar doors.

  • It is unlawful for any person to allow any cellar door over any sidewalk in the city or any door leading from a sidewalk to a basement, to remain open at any time except during the reception or delivery of goods, wares or merchandise, or to fail to provide adequate safeguards on said doors for the safety of the public; provided, however, that in such places as the public convenience is in no way interfered with, a permit may be granted by the Chief of Police to keep any door leading from the sidewalk to the basement open at all times. Such doors and openings must be completely covered by a strong wire mesh and no sign shall be attached to or displayed thereon.
